Most modern games are demanding and the performance of your game is mostly dependent on the power of your graphics card. You may not be getting the best performance from your GPU even if your games are still running fine. This article will show you how to increase your GPU performance even for a faster gaming experience.

Before we get right into the solution, let’s see some of the reasons why your GPU may not be performing at its best. One of the common reasons is thermal throttling which happens when your GPU becomes too hot and the speed is reduced. There is a unique throttling range for every graphics card and to increase the speed you have to minimize the heat. Another common cause is using outdated drivers which can slow down the performance of your GPU. Dust is another culprit that can do more damage to your computer.

Now that you know some of the causes of poor GPU performance, it’s time to learn how to increase performance.

  1. Water-cool your GPU

Water-cooling your system can help you reduce the overall temperature of your graphics card and give it more performance. It is not as simple as dusting your computer but it is not too difficult that you cant do it yourself. Water-cooling is also more efficient than air cooling.

2. Upgrade your graphics drivers

Updating your graphics drivers can give an immediate boost in the frame per second (FPS). By simply updating your drivers from the one that came with your computer to the latest version, you are sure to see an improvement instantly.

3. Overclock your graphics card

It is good to follow the manufacturer’s recommendation but sometimes it doesn’t hurt going against it a bit. You could run the graphics card beyond the default factory speed to increase performance. Overclocking may increase the overall temperature and stress your hardware therefore, you should only increase it lightly by about 10 to 15%.

4. Upgrading your graphics card

If you are using a desktop, you can consider this option. Graphic card producers are constantly upgrading their graphics cards. The newer versions are customized to be better than the older versions and you can benefit from simply buying the newer graphic cards.

5. Improve airflow

We already said it before that high temperature can reduce the performance of your GPU. Improve airflow will ensure that your computer stays cool and also have increased performance. To improve airflow can be as simple as getting a new fan for your computer or moving your computer into a new case with improved airflow.

6. Clean your computer

If you are not getting the best performance from your GPU, you should consider cleaning your computer. Cleaning your computer does not only makes it look good but also make it work better. Too much dust will make the fan work twice as much and it will cause an increase in temperature. It will also reduce airflow and can lead to overheating. So if you haven’t clean your computer in a while, you should consider doing that now to increase the performance of your GPU.
